The living environment has a significant impact on the independence of older people: a well-designed environment can facilitate abilities whereas a poor setting presents difficulties and risks. For example if the place where a person lives is poorly lit they are more susceptible to falls. These fears are not only confined to the home environment. Fears of falling outside, concerns relating to crime and safety in the community can all limit the choices made by older people and can reduce opportunities to build community connectedness.
Session ideas contained in this element of the web-resource provide opportunities for participants to share their concerns. Through a process of joint problem solving and sharing of ideas participants develop strategies to build confidence and thereby access opportunities for engagement in broader activities in the home and beyond.
